Nicholas Roerich: The Man Who Painted Shangri-La



Join us this week as we explore the life and work of Nicholas Roerich.  Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, he was an influential figure in the rich arts culture at the turn of the 20th century, befriending other notables such as Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Stravinsky, and Sergei Diaghilev.  Having the means to travel he led a dynamic life following his interested that took him around the world.  He became fascinated with archeology, music and Buddhism.  For more information about his life click here: https://www.roerich.org/roerich-biography.php

The museum is dedicated to his art that was developed during his travels to India, Nepal and China.  the paintings on display are colorful stylized images of the Himalayas.  His collections of artifacts are on display throughout the building, which was his home while living in NYC.
