SATURDAY SKETCH AT THE
AMERICAN FOLK ART MUSEUM
The American Folk Art Museum is New York's only museum dedicated to folk art and self-taught artists; those who've learned from personal experience rather than from formal training. This treasure is located right across the street from Lincoln Center and is free of charge to all visitors.
On view are 3 exhibitions:
- Gift Drawings from the Shaker Tradition: These symbols of love and nature were often given as “tokens” to other Shakers during meetings. Works represented here are considered to be among the finest surviving examples of this rare genre.
- Gameboards, Art, and Culture: Over 100 handmade gameboards, including early examples of checkers, chess, Parcheesi, Monopoly and Chutes and Ladders.
- Somewhere to Roost: Paintings, textiles, photographs, and sculptures that evoke and examine the idea of "home."
