Join us for a day of sketching at the Newark Museum. So many exhibits including the annual staff exhibition. 
and the Ballantine galleries will keep us busy.

The Ballantine House

The Ballantine House is a wing of the Museum complex and has been renovated. Step back in time into reimagined galleries, new multi-sensory activities, and enlivened historical rooms that reveal unseen stories of Newark.   • There is an admission fee of $10 for adults and $8 for Seniors.  Newark residents are free. Membership in American Alliance of Museums is accepted as well as other memberships ( Chanel 13).  Check the web site for more information.  https://newarkmuseumart.org/visit/plan-your-visit/#admission

  • Bathrooms and water are available. Limited food service is available

  • Backpacks are not allowed in the gallery. Plan on using a small kit of materials

  • Plan to use dry materials 

  • By Train
 You may take NJ Transit trains to either Newark Penn Station or Broad Street Station.
PATH trains go to Newark Penn Station. From Newark Penn Station – The Newark Light Rail connects Penn Station to the Broad Street Station.

There are two options for taking the Light Rail to the Museum from Newark Penn Station:
1) Take the Grove St bound Light Rail to the Washington Street Stop. Exit to your left and start walking on Washington St towards Warren St. The Museum is located 5 blocks down at the Central & Washington Street intersection.

2) Take the Broad St bound Light Rail to the Atlantic Street Stop. Exit to your right. Walk past the parking garage on your left toward Lombardy Street. Make a right onto Lombardy Street. Walk toward Broad Street and cross over to Washington Park. The Museum is located across the Park on Washington Street.

  • Due to construction—beginning January 2, there will no longer have on-site parking. We’ve partnered with nearby garages to provide convenient options for your visit.

    • Hahne & Co Garage (25 New Street) | Mon-Sun: up to $25 | Hours: 6am-10pm daily | Discounted rate of $13 if pre-booked online.
    • Edison Park Fast (42 Central Ave) | Mon-Fri: up to $18 | 7am-7pm | Closed weekends
    • Edison Park Fast (14 Central Ave) | Mon-Fri: up to $18 | 7am-7pm | Closed weekends
    • IDT Public Parking (20-32 Atlantic St) | Mon-Thurs: $18 | 6am-9:45pm Fri: $18 | 6am-8pm | Closed weekends
    • Street Parking | Mon-Sat: $1/hour | 9am-6pm | For additional parking, metered street spaces are available near the Museum. You can pay using the ParkMobile app or with quarters, at a rate of $0.25 per 15 minutes. Each space allows a maximum of 2 hours of parking. On Sundays, street parking is free.


There are no fees to participate in Urban Sketchers Programs. 
All drawing skill levels are welcome.
