Special Announcement

NYC Urban Sketchers Special Announcement

As many of you know, Mark Leibowitz, our chapter's founder and leader of the Weekend Sketchers group has taken ill. The role Mark plays is a large one and we are all pulling together to fill his shoes,  We all wish him a speedy recovery!

Given his absence from actively participating in the Urban Sketchers events,  here are some relevant announcements:

  • The Weekend Group will continue to meet on a regular basis starting on January 11, 2025.  A number of members including Mel Barranco,  Shawne Cooper, Frieda Christofides, Kim Hall and Tina Tang will be hosting the upcoming gatherings for January and February.  A schedule of events and hosts will be published shortly.

  • The Portrait Party, one of Mark's signature events, will be postponed, and NOT take place on February 1st as previously noted.   Once Mark has recovered he will announce the new date.  Watch for the information

  • Since Mark will be unable to host the regular gatherings, we are looking for volunteers to help organize and host the events.  If you have attended any of our sketch sessions you know how the program runs. New volunteers will be assisting seasoned veterans until such time as they feel they would like to become a lead host. The Board will support everyone's efforts with posing meeting notices.  If you are interested in helping  out in the short run and perhaps taking on some leadership in the future, please contact Meryl Greenblatt at Vounteers@nycurbansketchers.org
