SUNDAY 10/15/23: Sketch Pebble Beach

Sketch Event for SUNDAY:  October 15, 2023 

I didn’t know there was a Pebble Beach in Brooklyn until Danna volunteered to lead a sketching event there.  It’s actually a new way to see one of NYC’s great neighborhoods -  DUMBO.  (Down Under the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges)

I’ve sketched the area many times on the weekend and every single time I’ve seen at least one couple getting married or proposing marriage.  It’s almost guaranteed.  Bonus points to anyone who can capture some romance. 

DETAILS:

WHAT:  We’re sketching the DUMBO area starting at Pebble Beach in the AM and Jane’s Carousel in the PM.

WHEN:  We’ll meet at 11:00 AM - at Pebble Beach on SUNDAY, October 15th, 2023  

WHERE:  See the map below, to find Pebble Beach.  It’s by the water.  If it’s raining, please meet Danna inside the Time Out Market building by the elevators.

HOW:  

-   By Subway:  

It's about a ten minute walk downhill from all the subway choices.

A/C train to High Street,

Exit onto Cadman Plaza West. Walk left, toward the overhead highway; the street changes name to Old Fulton Street. Walk down the hill and bear left as you approach the East River. Continue on Fulton to DUMBO's Front Street to get a sense of the neighborhood. Make a left at Washington Street and walk one block towards the river to Water Street.  That corner is our meeting spot. (see map). 

2/3 train to Clark Street,

Take the Henry Street exit. Walk left on Henry Street. Go left on Cadman Plaza West/Old Fulton Street and walk downhill to the entrance to Brooklyn Bridge Park, located at the bottom of the hill, at the waterfront.  From there proceed to Water and Washington streets (see map).

F train to York Street,

If you want to avoid hills this is the easiest route.  (See map)

Special Treat:

Take the ferry at Wall Street / Pier 11 which cuts across the East River and deposits you in DUMBO eight minutes later.  Weekend ferries leave every 35 minutes.

By Car:  

Parking is difficult although there is alternate side of the street parking on Sunday.

LUNCH:  12:30 PM  - At the Time Out Market.  55 Water Street.  

AFTERNOON:  1:30 PM  The Afternoon Sketch will take place in the area around Jane’s Carousel (see map)

SHOW AND TELL:  3:00 PM By Jane’s Carousel.  This is the social part of our day where we will share our sketches, tell stories, and probably talk about art supplies.
