About this Event:
During the days of spring and summer, when there’s plenty of light to work with, it’s a joy to create art at a leisurely pace. Less so when the days of fall and winter grow shorter, and evening arrives early. This was the sketch practice dilemma Mel faced before developing his “Pre-marked Pages” method of sketching.
In this workshop, Mel will share with you his technique of creating a visually appealing artwork with big bold marks. You’ll start by creating a “pre-marked” page – a sheet of paper with random black lines drawn on it – and then learn how to integrate and blend the scene in front of you into this page. These first marks will be your friend rather than a distraction. Mel will show you how to use some addition/subtraction techniques to blend the lines into the scene. You’ll also learn to see how details that are present in the scene before you can add impact to your artwork.
