We’ve been doing a lot of sketching below 14th Street to support the art show, which means we’ve been ignoring some very interesting locations outside that area.
Did you know there are a string of parks on Sutton Place around the area of the 59th Street Bridge? I knew of one place that we’ve used for sketching, but there are at least five others that all look interesting and very sketchable.
DETAILS
What: We will be sketching the Sutton Place Parks moving north during the day.
Where: We’re meeting at Sutton Park located at 500-514 E 55th St. We’ll be exploring and changing locations moving north to explore the different parks. (see map)
When: Meet at 10 AM. Sleeping late? Come anyway - we’ll be there
How:
- By Subway:
Lexington Avenue and 53rd St. - the E or the M train
You may need to take a bus if walking is a problem.
There are no subway stations nearby, but it should be a pleasant walk.
(see map below).
Lunch: 12:30 PM . Bring your own or rely on local vendors. There are many food options in the neighborhood. Our lunch location is to be determined
Afternoon: 1:30 PM Back to the sketching
Show and Tell: 3:00 PM - We’ll find a likely spot (possibly where we had lunch) to share our work, tell stories and talk about what artists talk about.
NOTES:
- Bring a hat and be prepared for sunshine
- Bring a stool, it gives you more options. There are benches in the parks but having your own means you set up and sketch exactly where you like.
