Let’s visit and sketch the classic New England summer retreat off Cape Cod. The world-famous resort islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are located just south of Cape Cod, off the Atlantic seacoast. Both islands are a dream for photographers and artists, with stunning beaches, beautiful landscapes, historic lighthouses, charming storefronts and cottages, and colorful gardens.
The Island of Martha’s Vineyard is just seven miles off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. On less than 100 square miles, you’ll find six small towns, each with their own distinctive personality. The island has 17,000 year-round residents, although the population swells to 200,000 during the summer.
Nantucket is a small island of size similar to Martha’s Vineyard. It is located about 38 miles east of Martha’s Vineyard and has 14,000 year-round residents. The population of Nantucket swells to 80,000 during the summer months. Nantucket is known for its sand dune beaches and unpainted cedar-shingled buildings.
