Weekday Sketchers at 9/11 Memorial Plaza

About the Memorial | National September 11 Memorial & Museum

As we mark the 20th Anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center, let us pay tribute to all those who lost their lives, helped to save lives, worked on the daunting task of cleaning up the site and the construction of the memorial to the event.  The plaza surrounding the 9/11 Memorial is a beautiful tribute to all of these people.

Among the many memorials there are the  two fountains representing the void left by the fall of the buildings, the grove of trees representing the endurance of our memories and the "Survivor Tree" symbolizing regeneration following a disaster.

In preparation for the day, watching the documentary in the series "Treasures of New York:The Trees" will provide background on the conceptualization of the plaza and fountains, the research and development of the  trees, the technology installed behind the scene to maintain them  and the story of the Survivor Tree. You can watch it on line through the Thirteen.org web site.
