Saturday - Sketch The Everglades "River of Grass"

"There are no other Everglades in the world. They are, they have always been, one of the unique regions of the earth, remote, never wholly known. …. The miracle of the light pours over the green and brown expanse of saw grass and of water, shining and slow-moving below, the grass and water that is the meaning and the central fact of the Everglades of Florida. It is a river of grass." [Marjory Stoneman Douglas, The Everglades: River of Grass, 1947]

Grab your sketch book and join NYC Urban Sketchers this Saturday as we explore the lush and wild Florida Everglades! ...the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. The Everglades National Park is a 1.5-million-acre wetlands preserve on the southern tip of the state of Florida. Often compared to a grassy, slow-moving river, the Everglades is made up of coastal mangroves, sawgrass marshes and pine flat-woods that are home to hundreds of animal species - including the manatee, leatherback turtle, American crocodile, and the elusive Florida panther.
