Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY |
The same team that designed Central Park - Olmsted and Vaux designed the complex now known as Grand Army Plaza. It the official entrance to Prospect Park and it connects the park with the surrounding grand streets. One of those European style grand streets is Eastern Parkway, the nation's first parkway. It leads directly to Queens. The other grand street is Flatbush Avenue which is the Broadway of Brooklyn, cutting through nearly the entire borough.
The Fountain in the Center of Grand Army Plaza |
Growing up in Brooklyn I knew Grand Army Plaza because it was on the main route to Manhattan. It was a place you passed through. It's odd to return and not hurry through the area. Join me sketching the area - slowly and leisurely. It's a pleasing view an easy subject for inspiration.
