Weekday Sketchers at Derfner Museum in Rivedale

Let's travel to Riverdale in the Bronx to another hidden treasure in NYC:  a hospital that believes art is part of the healing process for their patients.  The Derfner Museum and Sculpture Grounds is housed in the Hebrew Home for the Aged, a rehabilitation and elder care facility on the banks of the Hudson River.  Through a confluence of events and philosophy the Derfner museum has become a treasure house of traditional Judaic artifacts and a showplace for current art and sculpture, especially from Easter Europe.

Keeping with our theme this summer of capturing views along the Hudson River, join us for a day of sketching in the sculpture garden (good weather is predicted), viewing the current exhibition and enjoying lunch on the premises.  For more information about the facility and he collection, click here: https://www.riverspringhealth.org/art/

                      5901 PALISADES AVE, RIVERDALE NY

DIRECTIONS: 1 Train to 225 St Station.  Walk north on Broadway about one block to the BX 7 bus  to Riverdale Ave/ 261 St. Walk  west along 261 St to Palisade Ave. Turn left and walk to the facility. If you drive, parking is available on site.

Please note:  you can use watercolors in the sculpture gardens, dry materials in the museum.  Bring a stool.  

Food Service:  The facility observes kosher food rules.  There is a cafe that serves dairy food.  If you bring your own food there is a section of the complex for brown baggers but you can not bring your own food into the facility.
