Saturday could be the nicest day of the week, I'm delighted to say. I'm anxious to get another look at The Vessel, NYC"s newest interactive sculpture. Hudson Yards is calling. Let's explore this newest part of NYC.
Hudson Yards is located between West 30th and 34th Streets, between 10th Avenue and 11th. The easiest way to enter is via West 34th St. There's an entrance between 10th and 11th Avenues. Let's meet by the subway entrance. You can also use this subway to get there - W 34 St Hudson Yards stop on the #7 subway.
From my first visit a week or two ago when it first opened, there seem to be a mix of very high end shops and restaurants and street vendors. There are also new buildings, new angles, a view of the Hudson Train Yard (the reverse view from the one seen fro the High Line), the Hudson River and great views looking east at our city.
DETAILS
Where: The Hudson Yards - enter at West 34 St (bet 10 Ave and 11th Avenues)
When: Starting time - 10 AM. Sleeping late? Come anyway, we'll be there. (If you come late, anyone with a sketchbook is most likely an Urban Sketcher).
Lunch: 12:00 PM - Noon. Bring your own or rely and the local vendors. We'll eat together outside.
Afternoon: 1 PM - Back to sketching the area.
Show and Tell: 3 PM - The social part of our day. I'll be checking out two nearby places and will decide on Saturday. Most likely nearby choices are Whitmans Hudson Yard, or Death Ave (yes that's the name of the restaurant and apparently there's a story that goes with the name) We'll share sketches with each other, tell stories and maybe even have a drink and a bite.
