Weekday Sketchers at Criminal Courts

"See you in court!" has a different meaning when said within an Urban Sketchers setting.  If you saw the exhibit on court artists at John Jay College this winter, you have an idea of what we will be doing.

Join us this week to practice your reportage skills in Arraignment Court.  This busy courtroom is the first stop on the journey into the criminal justice system.  The action is fast with numerous people coming and going as they conduct their business.  Judges, police, attorneys, court clerks and of course the lineup of the accused will be part of the mix we will be capturing in our sketch books.

Our day will have two parts: Morning will be in the arraignment courtrooms and the afternoon will be  in a trial court.  You won't need a stool. There is a luncheonette in the building. You can either get something there or bring something for lunch with you.   Do not bring a camera or any sharp instruments as they will be confiscated.

DATE: THURSDAY March 1, 2018

STARTING TIME: 10:00 AM

LOCATION: MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT BUILDING
                       100 Center Street

(ask for directions) There are two courtrooms.  We will meet in the hallway in  front of them. If you come a bit late and don't see any Urban Sketchers in the hall, just look in the courtrooms.  The court breaks for lunch at 1:00, which is when we will stop for lunch.

CHANGE OF VENUE FOR WEEKDAY SKETCHERS

THE FORD FOUNDATION BUILDING IS CLOSED FOR RENOVATION!!

THE WEEKDAY SKETCHER WILL MEET AT GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL

Fortunately we live in a city with endless possibilities for sketching.  Since we can't get into the Ford Foundation we will meet at Grand Central Terminal ....where else but under the clock in the middle of the main hall.  Since we can't sketch the greenery of the woodland setting at the Ford Foundation, we will challenge ourselves with the heavens!  That being the ceiling of the main hall....or anything else you would like to capture in your sketchbooks.
