WEEKDAY URBAN SKETCHERS AT ST. JOHN'S
St. John the Divine in Morningside Heights is America's answer to the great cathedrals of Europe. Standing in all of its Gothic glory and still under construction for more than 100 years, St. John's offers us a trove of sketching possibilities: the cathedral, both inside and out, the magnificent Peace Fountain and the beautiful gardens surrounding the many buildings on it's almost 12 acre property. (Have you ever seen the Bible Garden with plants that are mentioned in the Bible?)
And if that's not enough, we can sketch the National Sculpture Society's exhibition "A Blessing of Animals" inside the cathedral.
To get ready, here's a link to an article "10 Secret Facts about St. John's " http://untappedcities.com/2014/02/13/10-secrets-of-the-cathedral-of-st-john-the-divine-in-nyc/
