SATURDAY: Sketch Washington Square Park

World Wide SketchCrawl #49

This is a special day, we'll be joined sketching by people all over the world.
Be sure to follow the sketching fun on Social Media.

Saturday October 24, 2015

Washington Square Park  One of the top people-watching spots in all of NYC, there’s a never-ending parade of street musicians, performance artists, students, and tourists. The fountain, the arch, and the curves in the road are all images that will stay etched into your memory.

Chess under the Trees  Pass through the SW corner of Washington Square Park on any given afternoon and you can hear a pin drop. Old timers are busy plotting their next moves on the board while surrounding onlookers cheer them on. And while you may not equate "trees" with “Manhattan,” the city  is filled with them. In this park alone, several trees are hundreds of years old, including "The Hanging Tree," an English Elm located near the chess players. Towering over the park at 110 feet high, it’s the oldest known tree in NYC.
